#RomiAndReciosVenetianWedding
Nine months of arrangements, nine months of waiting… and “nine months” simply recalls pure love… the pure love of Romi and Recio captured all the senses in their fairy Venetian wedding, on September 16th, 2019.
Romi and Recio met in Los Angeles at a dinner for Sherry Moore, the Director/Curator of “Portraits of the Fallen.” When the two got engaged in Fiji two years later, Romi knew that getting married in Italy was Recio’s dream since the age of 11 and so… #RomiAndReciosVenetianWedding was born.
In December of 2018, they scoped out venues and fell in love with the Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal, where Simona, the owner of Vip Service Italia, works as event coordinator. The hotel is a mélange of the 16th and 21st centuries that has a storied history.
The Ridotto Theatre became in 1638 Europe’s first casino in which Casanova and other nobles would gamble, mingle with courtesans and smoke opium. Decades later, the Ridotto was joined with the Hotel Monaco, another distinctly unique building that incorporates touches of modern art. Romi and Recio would soon add to that history on September 16, 2019, as the first gay couple to be married there.
A chinoiserie theme was chosen as a nod to Venice’s trade history with China and the silk road. The wedding color palette was inspired by the original 15th century fresco on the ballroom ceiling, with additional accent colors in turquoise and red, the colors of Romi’s and Recio’s tuxedos.
Every single small detail (because it’s all in the details) has been carefully studied by Romi, Recio and Simona during a nine-months e-mail correspondence that made the three of them closer and closer every day.
When Romi and Recio arrived for the wedding in a gondola, the presence of videographers, who were filming the event for his TV show, created an atmosphere that was a cross between an epic studio production and a paparazzi mob.
Before the ceremony the atmosphere in the entire ballroom was tense with emotion and love; when the couples started walking on the isle the explosion of colors of the ladies’ gowns matching the bow ties of their partners was the incarnation of happiness. Everyone was smiling, someone was crying… it was not just a gathering of close friends, it was family.
Love has been around all night long, eating, dancing, joking. And at the end we were all exhausted, sweating, with the hair that was a mess, but very very happy.
#RomiAndReciosVenetianWedding will soon be a documentary.
